Freedom Road Music Festival
A free, open-air civic festival in Taichung's old town — indie bands, a human-rights market and short talks, easy to drop into for any visitor.
About
Freedom Road Music Festival (自由路上音樂節) is the centrepiece of Taichung's annual Freedom Road Arts Festival — a free, open-air civic event held on Jiguang Street in the Central District. Organised by the Good Citizen Cultural Action Association, it commemorates the free-speech legacy of activist Deng Nan-jung (Nylon Cheng) and pairs live indie and rock sets with a human-rights market and short public talks. It's a street party with a conscience: music, market stalls and civic conversation rolled into one afternoon.
Lineup
The 2026 edition (6 Apr) features Taiwanese acts including 王明哲 (Wang Ming-che), 楊舒雅, P!SCO and OBSESS, with short talks by public figures woven between the sets.
How foreigners buy tickets
Entry is free — no ticket needed, just arrive on Jiguang Street. The organisers welcome donations to their crowdfunding campaign if you'd like to support the event.
